EEYOU EENOU ISTCHEE – In October 2019, the CNYC Board of Directors of the Cree Nation Youth Council appointed Ms. Samantha Awashish as the Interim Deputy Youth Grand Chief.

In light of the recent Mistissini Youth Council elections, the Youth Chief tenure and mandate of Ms. Samantha Awashish came to an end. As a result, Ms. Awashish is no longer member on Board of Director of the Cree Nation Youth Council and therefore cannot continue with her appointment as the Interim Deputy (vice-chairperson).

In accordance to the CNYC Guidelines, the interim appointment became nullified the moment Ms. Awashish was replaced by the new Mistissini Youth Chief on the Board of Directors. Thus, following section 9.4 “Where the office of Vice-Chairperson becomes vacant …, a board member shall be appointed to that position until the following elections”, a new appointment was required for the vacant vice-chairperson position.

At the Board of Directors video conferencing meeting that took place on August 12, 2020, a resolution was adopted to appoint a Board member to replace the Interim Deputy Youth Grand Chief. Thus, the Cree Nation Youth Council would like to announce that Ms. Stacy Anderson, Coordinator of Youth Programs and Development of the Cree Nation of Mistissini, is hereby mandated to assume the duties of the vice-chairperson as stated in Section 9 of the Governance Guidelines.

The appointment is in effect as of August 12, 2020 and will remain in effect until the ratification of results of the Cree Nation Youth Council Elections of the Chairperson and vice-chairperson coming in 2021.
